Sculpture

What medium best expresses Antarctica? Students are encouraged to experiment.

Students can create glass paintings, or glass, plastic or polystyrene sculptures or collages to express the landscape of Antarctica. Perhaps even an Antarctic food sculpture using foods such as meringue, mashed potato or coconut ice! Or they could attempt an ice sculpture (with a block of ice, some carving tools and candles).

Davis station has a sculpture garden created by artist Stephen Eastaugh who visited there with the AAD Arts Fellowship.

View the work of artist Maria Buchner, who created and photographed ice sculptures while in Antarctica.
